ABOUT MY TEAM AND I
I study stress and stressors in an ecological context. By incorporating physiology into our predictions under climate warming scenarios I hope to better understand what will happen to natural world I enjoy.
I first learned the joys of research as an undergraduate at Fairfield University where Dr. Brian Walker introduced me to physiological ecology. I was hooked from the time I first held a passerine in my hands. After gaining some experience as a field tech and a laboratory supervisor I moved to Clemson to begin my graduate career. Now I use a lungless salamander as my model organism to study the effects of climate change at on organimals level. While at Clemson mentoring undergraduate students and leading in the classrooms has become one of my biggest joys. When I'm not thinking about sallies, I enjoy spending time with my family, Boston area sports, a bad pun, and a good movie. Follow me on Twitter to learn more: @EcoStress |

THE STRESS AFTER DARK CREATIVE INQUIRY TEAM
Alexa DeMaio
HOMETOWN: Lebanon, PA
FAVORITE SCIENTIST: Bill Nye Alexa joined the team in the spring of 2015 as a freshmen. She may have been born without wisdom teeth, but that doesn't mean she isn't wise, in fact she may be more derived. Michael Baker
HOMETOWN: Anderson, SC
FAVORITE SCIENTIST: Neil Degrasse Tyson MIchael is one of the newest members on the team. He joined the team in the fall of 2015. Don't get in a bidding war with this undergrad, his four years of experience working in a pawn shop has made him an excellent negotiator. George Birsic
HOMETOWN: Ashburn, VA
FAVORITE SCIENTIST: Charles Linnaeus George joined the CI team in the summer of 2016 after spending a month as forensic scientist intern. He went from examining John Doe's cause of death to extracting corticosterone receptors. When he isn't in the lab examining brains, he enjoys fly fishing. |
Samatha Worth
HOMETOWN: Westchester, NY
FAVORITE SCIENTIST: Isaac Newton Samantha signed on to slime in the fall of 2015 as a freshmen. Her passions align with the medical field. So much so that she spent part of her 2016 summer vacation helping the less fortunate in Costa Rica during a medical mission trip. Erin Lackey
HOMETOWN: Irmo, SC
FAVORITE SCIENTIST: Albert Einstein Erin hopped aboard in the spring of 2016 (get it? (like a frog)). Watch out for this CI, she knows a thing or two about being at a physiological disadvantage with her missing gallbladder. Alex Strigenz
HOMETOWN: Fond du Lac, WI
FAVORITE SCIENTIST: Stephen Hawking Alec is excited to begin bolstering his knowledge of Plethodon, but don't test his Green Bay Packer's knowledge, this Wisconsin native may be their biggest fan. Alec became a welcome addition to the team in Fall 2016. |
PAST TEAM MEMBERS
Taylor Stewart
HOMETOWN: Columbia, SC
FAVORITE SCIENTIST: Steve Irwin Taylor is the founding member of the team, established fall 2014. Don't let his photo fool you, he isn't a city slicker and enjoys getting out in the field to study salamanders. In fact, he feels a special connection to study species because he was studied as a baby. Currently Taylor works as a laboratory manager and technician, while he looks for a graduate program Jasmine Maya
HOMETOWN: Greenville, SC
FAVORITE SCIENTIST: Konrad Lorenz Jasmine signed on to slime as Veterinary Science major, she may know a thing or two about keeping animals happy and healthy, but just don't ask her to carry a tune, she can't whistle! |
Molly Nielsen
HOMETOWN: Camas, WA
FAVORITE SCIENTIST: Rita-Levi Montalcini Molly started on the team in the fall of 2014. She is the sleuth most likely to follow in 007's footsteps as she has been nearly drowned, robbed and held at gunpoint. Her next mission? Masters of Education with a focus on STEM disciplines |
