WHY PHYSIOLOGY?
ScaleClimate change is occurring over a global scale, and many of our predictions under warming scenarios are derived at the same scale. However, the microhabitat an organism experiences may differ drastically from larger scale patterns. Physiology allows for the incorporation of scale-appropriate predictions into our models.

Life History - Physiology NexusAll squirmy things are not created equal. An organism's life history and the environment it has experienced over its evolutionary history impacts its ability to respond to perturbations in its environment. All too often we do not consider these differences and make predictions by lumping physiological different organisms together.

AccuracyOften, species distribution models that incorporate biology and mechanism more closely match our expectations of how species ranges will shift under warming scenarios. If our goal is to make the best ecological predictions possible then mechanism must be considered in our predictive frameworks.
